The sheen of this new paint is attracting as much attention as its thermal benefits. EccoTherm¢ scores highly on all counts

To create a set that would showcase fashion in the best possible light, the designers of the Vogue media room at the Sydney Fashion Show extravaganza chose a painted backdrop with a high sheen finish.

Organisers say new EccoTherm¢ paint from Aalto Colour was specified for its rich depth of white and subtle pearlescent sparkle, which complemented the layered monochromatic hound's tooth-inspired design of the space.

Jane McKellar of Aalto Colour says the vivid contrast between black and silver and the significant sheen difference allowed the different light sources to react with the components of each design beautifully.

"The reaction to the room in general by media and guests was significant; it was vastly different from the very pink room of 2004. The hound's tooth theme was stylish and sophisticated, with the emphasis on texture and finish rather than colour."

EccoTherm, a BM Pacific paint, is frequently specified for its polychromatic finish, says director Barry Whalley.

"Many designers are looking for a finish that will complement a sleek living environment. The pearlescent sheen of EccoTherm works well in such situations. And it is increasingly specified for commercial premises," he says.

EccoTherm paint is also valued for its thermal insulation properties. Whalley says two coats of EccoTherm can make a significant difference to the thermal effectiveness of building materials, such as tilt slabs. This can translate to considerable annual savings on heating and cooling costs."
