Farmhouse flavour

There will always be a number of circumstances that influence the design of a kitchen, including the style of the home, whether it is located in the city or country, and how many people will be living in the house.

When kitchen designer Ann Beales of Ann Beales Design was approached by the owners of this home near Martinborough in the Wairarapa, they were clear that they wanted a traditional country kitchen for their heritage-style home.

"They did not want a laboratory kitchen, but instead wanted a homely and practical family kitchen that would be suitable for a growing family, and would be at one with the countryside around them," says Ann Beales.

The kitchen features Generation 4 blackwood timber tops with the special Generation 4 finish. The designer and owner worked together to choose cream colours for cabinetry to contrast with and highlight the rich grain of the blackwood. Stainless steel appliances complement the look.

This kitchen won Ann Beales the domestic kitchen category of the latest Generation 4 timbertop competition.
