Family ties
Strong lines, functionality and classic finishes combine to make the most of a secluded battle-axe property in Sydney's upper North Shore
A new home for a large and growing family needs to incorporate a number of special features.
Chateau Constructions, the company that designed and built this house, says the owners wanted a home that could be opened wide to allow activities to spread to the gardens. They also wanted secluded areas to give them a peaceful retreat, and sophisticated entertaining areas.
Although the house is single level, the design used the slight gradient to step up the site so that every room can open directly to its own garden space. Large formal and family living areas link together and share an integrated pool the reflections off the water dapple each room in sunlight. A hallway, wide enough to furnish, leads to bedrooms that capture the morning sun. Also included is a fully appointed home theatre with tiered seating.
With large-span bifolds drawn back, the kitchen and family area becomes a garden pavilion, well suited to poolside entertaining. When the room is closed, a series of louvre windows provides natural ventilation, creating a versatile comfort zone that rarely needs air conditioning.
Chateau Constructions has been in the business of designing and building individual homes for Sydney families for nearly 40 years. With a reputation based on premium-quality construction and exemplary customer service, the company has access to the most respected trades and sought-after products.
