Face of change
The building services design for the base building systems and integrated Electrolux fit-out were both undertaken by Connell Wagner
A building conceived with a focus on sustainability requires a broad skill set from the building services consultants who design the layouts of the building systems.
Connell Wagner undertook the building services design for both the base building systems and the integrated Electrolux fit-out. This involved collaborative design of electrical, lighting, mechanical, hydraulic and fire engineering disciplines, says project principal Marek Tomaszewski.
"The benefit of an integrated fit-out is the ability to have the design and documentation of all engineering disciplines undertaken by one company enabling a seamless co-ordination of the greater design," says Tomaszewski. "The Electrolux building has several interesting elements from our perspective. For example, a low-temperature VAV air conditioning system was installed, with benefits of versatility and energy savings, to take advantage of the building's heating and cooling diversity."
Another point of difference from the consultancy's point of view is the natural ventilation of the carpark areas and the building's open ceiling design the latter making concealing services a tricky consideration.
Tomaszewski says individuals who worked on the project included Jonathan Daniel, on electrical engineering and lighting design, Les Thorpe on mechanical engineering, and Kate Kalisz on hydraulic engineering. Sally Felice worked on the building's fire engineering, with a fire safety engineering report by Peter Blundell.
