Security and safety are obvious benefits of outdoor lighting. But there's an array of lighting options designed to add ambience and visual impact to the garden.

This outdoor area features a number of exterior lighting solutions from Lighting Direct.

Steps up from street level to the entrance of the house are lit by outdoor A5 step lights with low-voltage 20W bulbs. Their frosted glass shades are designed to diffuse the light and subtly accent each step.

The A5 step lights are available with a louvred cover, which, like the frame, has a weatherproof metallic finish that won't tarnish.

Illuminating the rear deck of the house are three Myra 35W spots. Designed to highlight elements such as tables or barbecues, these have GU10 halogen lamps that don't require a transformer.

A knuckle joint on the light fitting allows you to adjust the direction to get a better spread of light. The metal finish on the Myra spots is coated with a protective layer that is hardwearing enough to withstand harsh marine conditions without tarnishing.

The garden is illuminated by strategically placed 12V halogen spotlights. Made from robust, rust-resistant die-cast aluminium, these can be placed at the base of shrubs and trees to throw light up the trunks and onto the foliage, creating a perception of added depth and visual drama.
