Everything in order
The owners of this new house set their priorities early the kitchen design came first
Even in a modern home, the kitchen is not usually the first architectural priority. For the owners of this new home, however, the kitchen design determined the layout of the rest of the house.
Designer Lyness Kerr, working with Fyfe Kitchens, says the importance of the kitchen couldn't be underestimated.
"The owner enjoys being in the kitchen. She loves to cook and entertain, so the kitchen design was the first priority."
In keeping with this focus, the kitchen forms a large arc, providing a visual link to the formal dining room on the left, the family room on the right, and an open-plan living area directly in front.
Manufactured by Fyfe Kitchens, the cabinets are finished in a high-gloss metallic lacquer, in Spekt Brown. Flush drawers are combined with framed panel doors, all of which feature Grass hardware for good accessibility and ease of operation. Colour-backed glass doors conceal pantry storage and a scullery.
The kitchen has three islands, including the main work space, which is stepped down to provide a lowered cooktop. Benchtops are patterned stainless steel and Star Galaxy granite.
