The kitchen may be the busiest room in your home especially when you have a young family but this doesn't mean you have to compromise on aesthetics.

For the owners of the new kitchen shown above, classic design elements were just as important as functionality. With three young children, the owners also wanted to be able to personalize their kitchen to suit their growing family.

Clive Christian furniture, from England, was specified to provide a traditional look that is not only warm and inviting, but also has the appeal of understated fine furniture.

The kitchen includes a classic English Clive Christian mantle with hidden spice drawers, and a tall dresser cabinet with beveled glass panes to showcase the owners' fine china and crystal.

A large, central island features an Iroko wood work top and a vegetable sink for food preparation. The island also provides additional storage, including large wicker baskets for vegetables.

To achieve the desired furniture look, Sub-Zero refrigerators, a dishwasher and a microwave are integrated within the cabinetry. A peninsula, with seating, accommodates the children for breakfast and is also a gathering area for friends when the owners are entertaining.

Clive Christian Scottsdale's design consultant Karen Doerflein says marble countertops further enhance the classic, refined feel of the kitchen.

Doerflein says all Clive Christian furniture is handmade in Britain, using the finest natural materials from managed resources. Signature features include dovetailed, soft-closing drawers that are individually carved with the Clive Christian signature. In addition, every order is supplied with antique brass or antique nickel Clive Christian lion's head handles.
