Urban renewal is breathing new life into the centre of our cities, as more and more people relish the opportunity to live right in the heart of the action. Stratum Management, one of Wellington's leading privately owned development companies, has embraced the trend, launching several high-rise apartment buildings in the past two years.

The most recent release is the Elevate apartment building at 24 Taranaki Street a location that not only offers harbour views, but is also close to the waterfront and the buzz of its promenades, cafes and bars. Designed by the award-winning Wellington firm Architecture +, the 16-storey building has a distinctive, contemporary exterior.

Development manager Robert Clemens says this is matched by an ultra-modern interior, finished to a particularly high standard of specification.

"The kitchens, for example, all feature high-end Smeg appliances," he says. "Stratum has a longstanding relationship with Applico, the distributor of Smeg appliances in New Zealand. We have specified these appliances in our townhouses and apartments for the past 10 years. We particularly appreciate their reliability they have needed almost zero maintenance. And the innovative design and high functionality of Smeg appliances fits with the standard of specification we require for the Elevate apartments."

Appliances chosen for this project include the Smeg SA109 60cm stainless steel multifunction oven; Smeg Linea microwave oven with built-in trim kit; Smeg PUM60X Powerpac 60cm stainless steel rangehood, and Smeg DWAU149XN 60cm stainless steel freestanding dishwasher. Kitchens also feature the Baumatic BKF14 60cm Touch Control ceramic cooktop. Special features of the Smeg wall oven include a safe-to-touch triple-glazed door and rear-illuminated polycarbonate knobs.
