Entertaining the idea
With its flowing interior and strong indoor-outdoor connection, this new home by Intrepid Development takes the best elements of Tuscan architecture and adapts them to the Las Vegas lifestyle
A house designed for entertaining needs an outdoor focus, especially when it's located in a city with a sunny climate. For the Kuykendall house, a natural setting, complete with pool and waterfall, was designed by Lewis Landscape.
The owners say they wanted a lush, colorful landscape with drought-resistant plants. They also wanted a natural look and an outdoor living area that would complement the house.
Lewis Landscape designed retaining walls and terraced areas to accommodate the slope of the land. Over time, the plants along the terraces will grow to hide the retaining walls. Plants in the pool area include colorful bougainvillea and palms.
Lush greenery can also be seen at the front of the house in the formal stepped landscape, which features rows of viburnum and dwarf nandina plants. Several tall palms add verticality and are illuminated at night.
Lewis Landscape specializes in large projects, and has worked on several golf courses, casinos and high-end housing communities.
