Enlightened perspective
High-end paint systems contributed to the ecologically sound project Resene paints were specified
An important aspect of the Green Star New Zealand rating system is a focus on low-emission materials. Paint surfaces in the building were a central consideration.
Resene's Environmental Choice-approved products contributed directly to the 5 Green Star rating. Environmental Choice is a government-endorsed programme aimed at minimising the environmental impact of the manufacture, use and disposal of products.
Several Resene paint systems were used on the Meridian building, including Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat and Resene Lustacryl the latter is a waterborne enamel used in areas traditionally reserved for solventborne enamels. Low-odour Resene Zylone Sheen, with excellent flow properties, was another wallcovering selected. This dries to a rich low sheen finish.
Resene Lumbersider was used on exposed areas and is based on a tough 100% acrylic resin to ensure maximum durability in all conditions. This product has a natural satin look and is fully washable. In addition, Resene Multishield+, a waterborne clear glaze, was applied over waterborne systems to extend their life.
Resene's dedicated ecology focus extends beyond its range of high-tech paint systems. The Resene PaintWise programme is an unwanted paint and paint packaging recovery scheme that allows paint users to recycle paint and packaging, reducing the burden on landfills.
