Enjoying the outlook - Contemporary-style kitchen by Wonderful Kitchens
Contemporary-style kitchen by Wonderful Kitchens
The great bonus of the open-plan kitchen layouts that are so popular in homes today is the easy connection they provide between the cook and the wider family living spaces.
The owners of this home wanted to enjoy the panoramic sea views and maintain the links with the living spaces; however, they also wanted to have a degree of separation between the kitchen and family area. Kitchen designer Fred Tabet of Wonderful Kitchens resolved the issue with his design for their new kitchen.
"With such great ocean views, the sink had to be on the island, so to create some privacy and to conceal any cooking and cleanup mess, we designed a 1.2m-high blade wall behind the sink," says Tabet.
"By building it in a contrasting material, the wall has become a feature of the design, as well as having a very definite function," he says.
Other functional elements of the kitchen include the use of underbench cabinetry only, with drawers fitted with Blum soft-close hardware and Blum Orgaline cutlery and utensil inserts. For extra convenience, a walk-in pantry large enough to work in and prepare dishes, is concealed behind bifold doors.
Wonderful Kitchens has been designing, manufacturing and installing kitchens, closets, laundries and bathrooms for more than 30 years.
