Edge of infinity Specially designed infinity edge pool by Mayfair Pools

Even the most inviting pool sometimes has to take second place to the view. Such was the case with this project the pool needed to link with the living areas of the hill-top home, but the magnificent Bay of Islands view could not be compromised.

Northland Mayfair Pools agent Mike Lodge cut out the shape of the pool from an existing concrete deck. Large boulders supporting the original deck were removed and reused in the new design.

The pool has a long infinity edge, with water cascading over a schist wall to a shallow pool below. A symmetrical design and a new sandstone patio and coping add a touch of formality, complementing the architecture of the house.

Lodge says the pool was built using concrete blocks that were sprayed on site with fibreglass in the colour Blue Marina.

A heat pump heats the pool, which can be covered with a hide-away thermal blanket. This is concealed in a specially designed pit at one end of the pool.
