With the world of architecture and design moving quickly towards a greener, more planet-friendly emphasis, it makes sense to also look at more efficient, responsible ways to heat our homes. When the vagaries of gas and electricity bills leave us at their mercy, the choice of an economical, eco-friendly alternative seems even smarter.

As importers of an alternative form of home heating, Nature's Flame is well named. The company offers special pellet-burning fireplaces that have the aesthetics and comfort of an open fire or other fuel burner, but without impacting on the environment, says general manager Steve Cunningham.

"Our pellets are a clean-burning alternative fuel manufactured from waste wood sourced exclusively in New Zealand," he says. "Pellet fires produce only a handful of ash per 20kg bag and are virtually smokeless. They have only one-tenth the emissions of older solid fuel burners and one-hundredth the emissions of open fires.

"The fires are economical to run and can heat an entire house. This form of heating is gaining popularity as concern grows about the future price of domestic energy."
