Double parked
To maximise basement parking facilities for the new Drake offices, cars are stacked using an independent pit system from Car Parking Solutions
It's hard enough to find a parking space in a city street, but sometimes it's even harder to find a space in the company car park.
To double the number of car spaces available in the basement of the new Drake building, the design team specified an independent pit system from Car Parking Solutions. The German-manufactured Wohr system stacks the cars in groups of four, with two on each level.
Bob Haswell, managing director of Car Parking Solutions says the equipment is relatively new to New Zealand, but has been widely used in Europe, Asia and Australia for more than 20 years.
"We have completed more than 40 projects in New Zealand over the past few years," he says. "Space is at a premium for many office and apartment blocks, and installing one of these systems increases car capacity by 100%. It also works out to be a lot more cost effective than paying for car parking elsewhere in the city. In our experience, car stacking equipment has never overcapitalised a project. Rather, we have found additional car spaces are critical to leasing office space, making the whole package attractive to a new tenant."
Haswell says the independent pit system is comprised of large steel platforms that raise and lower the cars at the simple touch of a button.
"The system is not only easy to use, but also safe, reliable and durable. And clients can rest assured that it is approved for use by councils throughout New Zealand."
Haswell says because one size doesn't fit all, there are up to 20 variations, with pit systems available in a number of different sizes and widths.
