With a design philosophy of creating spaces for people to enjoy living, Ignite Architects incorporated features that provide occupants with both privacy and the flexibility to adapt the living environment.

Ignite director Grant Harris says the concept was essentially to take apartment living to the next level, within the set financial boundaries.

"The central courtyard is a critical design aspect. It is a quiet and peaceful retreat from the city. Sunlight is essential, so building heights and sun tracking were factored, ensuring part of the courtyard is exposed to sun at any time of the day."

Harris says the College Hill Road facade was conceived as a living billboard, with occupants defining the exterior according to time of day and climatic conditions.

The apartments were also designed with transferable space connections between deck and living space, he says.

"The concept was to blur the lines between inside and outside, as well as bedroom and living spaces. The balcony was treated as part of the living space, with the louvres acting as window treatments at the furthermost extension."

The large sliding louvres, with adjustable blades, ensure occupants privacy as well as protection from the elements.

"The idea of multi-use, transferable space also features in the interiors. Occupants are able to slightly modify the layout with the large sliding doors. Sleeping, living, dining and kitchen spaces can be connected, with the only fixed space being the bathroom, because of the services. The rest of the rooms can be modified to suit needs."
