Designing a solution
Kitchens are undergoing a renaissance as they become integrated into modern lifestyles
Traditionally, kitchens have been an oft-ignored room when it comes to home design as long as they fulfilled their function most people were happy. However, times and tastes are always changing and the humble kitchen is finally getting the attention it deserves.
Gone are the small, enclosed rooms tucked away from the rest of the house, where cooking was a solitary chore. Our busier lifestyles lead to a change in thinking and design, says Lee Woodall CMKBD, president of Lee Woodall Designs, Inc.
"Cooking has become a much more communal activity, and that means the kitchen needs to be more accessible within the home. So that is what I do I create rooms that function as kitchens and are an integral part of the family lifestyle."
Along with 18 years' experience as a designer, Woodall is also trained in the fine arts and brings into her designs an in-depth knowledge of historical precedents.
"When a client commissions me to work with them, they're working with someone who has a broad knowledge of aesthetics as well as training in space planning and design."
