Designer alternative

There's nothing more irritating than not being able to fully realise your design vision, especially when the cause is no fault of your own. In true entrepreneurial style, swimming pool and landscape designer Fiona Kelly decided second best was no longer an option.

After years of having off-the-shelf products incorporated into her designs, Fiona has developed her own range of functional art products marketed under the name GrateArt.

"I was not happy with a couple of elements that continually found their way into my pool and landscape designs, namely plastic skimmer box covers and utilitarian drainage grating."

GrateArt covers and grates are manufactured from marine-grade stainless steel, so they won't warp or crack, and are relatively maintenance free.

"Each piece is practical as well as visually pleasing. The perforated designs allow you to see if the skimmer basket needs emptying without lifting the cover."

Available in a range of ready-made designs, the standardised sizes of both the covers and grates means they can be retrofitted into existing landscapes. A custom design service allows for the creation of pieces to your specifications.
