When it comes to home entertainment systems, there are a lot of options on the market today. Making the decision on which one to buy can be a daunting process.

It doesn't have to be this way if you talk to the right people and get the right information. Betta Electrical is a national retail chain of electrical appliance stores specialising in home entertainment products.

The company's national audiovisual manager Gavin Carter says customers have different needs and wants when it comes to fitting out their home with the latest in sound and vision equipment.

"Betta Electrical can design a system for the person who wants to start with basic equipment through to the customer looking for a fully integrated system."

He says the home technology market has matured. Customers can benefit from such breakthroughs in electronics as progressive scan DVD players, flat-panel televisions and Dolby Digital surround sound systems.

With packaged systems, it means assembling a home-theatre system has become much easier.

Compared to the systems of just a few years ago, today's home theatre solutions deliver far greater realism, drama and impact, Carter says.

"DVD has revolutionised the way people watch movies. Compared to VHS, DVD is far more versatile with excellent picture quality and wide-screen viewing."

Most people tend to plug their DVD player into their TV. While the speakers on a TV have improved, they will not get the full effect of surround sound.

"That is why Sony developed DAVS Dream Systems. These units have a traditional audio receiver, as well as a DVD player, CD player, multi-channel, audio processing software and 5.1 speakers."

The Dream Systems are designed as all-in-one solutions. By simply adding a television, the customer can enjoy the experience of home theatre.
