Given the airport terminal's function of witnessing departures and arrivals, as well as taking in the spectacular scenery, glazing was always going to be a closely considered aspect of the airport's design.

Thermosash Commercial supplied and installed various high-tech glazing systems for the airport, combining optimum viewing with maximum thermal efficiency, says area manager Allan Valli.

"Our CW600 Series, with flush glazed vertical aesthetics and mechanically entrapped horizontals, was used on the large facade that overlooks the runway," says Valli. "CW600 was specified by CCM to avoid the glass-box effect of many curtainwall systems."

The design significantly reduces the aluminium showing on the outside of the airport, and allowed CCM Architects unlimited flexibility of design on the facade.

Elsewhere on the project, Thermosash supplied the PW400 four-sided mechanically entrapped curtainwall system that is seen on much of the exterior. These prefabricated and glazed panels have interlocking legs, and are designed to accommodate building movements both vertical and horizontal and differential rates of thermal expansion and contraction.

Thermosash also supplied automatic entry door systems and Total Vision Entry Wind Lobbys for the project.

Project director John Rogers, from CCM Architects, says Thermosash products were chosen for their versatility, reliability and for Thermosash's backup service.
