Just because you're counting every dollar doesn't mean you can't have the home you've always desired.

This new David Reid Homes show home in Whangaparaoa Rd was built to demonstrate just how innovative a new home can be when it is built to budget constraints. Martin Wilshire of David Reid Homes North Shore says standards have not been compromised to build the house for under $400,000.

"In fact, the opposite applies. The house is very well insulated, for example, far in excess of the building code requirements. Materials are also high quality and include a Scyon® Stria and Linea® weatherboard exterior and a solid oak floor in the open-plan family living area."

Located in a semi-rural area, the house was designed to maximise the expansive views, with oversize slot windows framing key aspects of the view.

The family living area opens out to large decks on two sides, including a covered deck at the rear. The kitchen, at the heart of the home, includes a long island-style peninsula with a composite stone top and display shelving, and a built-in wine refrigerator.
