The David Reid Homes show home at Karaka Lakes maximises this site with a large, highly contemporary family home the inspiration for the custom design came from the experienced David Reid Homes team.

A large off-form concrete blade wall anchors the house visually and provides a strong link between inside and out. Brendon Hamill, managing director of the David Reid Homes Counties franchise says this link reinforces the way the house is designed for the relaxed, indoor-outdoor lifestyle of the modern family.

"This raw, textural concrete wall is also a strong design feature," he says. "In a sense, it looks as though the house has been built around the remains of an old settler structure."

On the interior, there are clearly defined spaces for family living, with three living areas providing separation for parents and children. These spaces include a media room and a sitting room close to bedrooms on the upper level. This room has expansive views across the lake.

"Even on the ground floor, the views to the lake are a real drawcard," says Brendon Hamill.

The 303m² house has five bedrooms, one of which could be a study. Another bedroom is designed to function as a guest suite.

The house has been designed for maximum energy efficiency large overhangs keep living areas cool in summer, yet allow the sun to warm the interior in winter.
