Curvaceous
Bending the rules, without breaking the budget these Queenstown apartments incorporate curved glass from Glasshape
Maximising an attractive outlook is always a priority when you are planning a new home, but it's important that the architecture is not compromised in the process.
Curved toughened glass from Glasshape lets you have the best of both worlds. Because the glass can be up to 3.9m high and 2.4m wide, and has sufficient structural strength, you can enjoy uninterrupted views through windows that are free of supports and mullions.
And, as this Queenstown project illustrates, it's possible to create distinctive architectural features using curved glass.
Rick Forrest of Glasshape says the company has invested in new technology that enables it to produce especially large curved toughened glass panels.
"Being able to manufacture the glass in New Zealand means shorter lead times for home builders, as the panels don't have to be sourced from overseas suppliers," he says. "There are also obvious sustainable benefits from sourcing the glass locally."
Forrest says Glasshape's TemperShield curved toughened glass is the most frequently specified product, for both residential and commercial applications it was recently chosen for the new Supreme Court building. Other Glasshape products include cyclone-resistant StormShield, acoustic-rated WhisperShield and intruder-resistant GuardShield.
