LIKE MOST behind-the-scenes applications, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is not something we tend to think about. Yet for any public building these systems are of paramount importance, and their installation requires experience and expertise.

That is why Siganto & Stacey, a company with more than 30 years of HVAC industry experience, was awarded the contract to oversee the installation of these systems in the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art as part of the Millennium Arts precinct, says Siganto and Stacey general manager Joe Briguglio.

"With our level of expertise and reputation as a first choice company within the industry, we were certain we had the core skills and capability to undertake the complexities of this contract."

Siganto & Stacey was responsible for the installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning to all galleries and their associated back-of-house areas.

"The reticulation of ductwork was extremely complex, spanning numerous layers throughout the building via dedicated risers to the various levels," says Briguglio.

In all, Siganto & Stacey installed more than 10,000 pieces of ductwork, 5000m² of fire sprayed duct, and extensive ventilation systems associated with work shops, spray booths and varnish rooms. The company also carried out extensive acoustic lining of the ductwork.

Briguglio says the successful completion of this, and other mechanical services projects throughout Australia, comes down to the dedication of the company's experienced workforce.

"Over 25% of our staff have 15 years or more of continual service with the company. The value of our business is based on the strength of our people."
