Country chic
Combining classic charm with modern labour-saving conveniences, this kitchen's design and solid construction are by Scullery & Holz
No matter how many emerging looks come and go, classic kitchen styling will never fall from grace. Skill-intensive features such as carpentry-built cabinets, aged paint finishes, consummate detailing and solid stone benchtops are always in demand. However, together with traditional good looks, your kitchen also needs to suit its environment and offer practical, modern convenience.
Scullery & Holz designs ergonomically laid out kitchens where comprehensive cabinetry skills, an in-depth knowledge of finishes, and a close understanding of today's appliance options all come into play, says managing director Stefan Mayer.
"For this kitchen, the owner wanted to combine a country look with contemporary utilitarian features, such as an integrated double sink and dishwasher," says Mayer. "The kitchen is in a square footprint, with a pillar in each corner and the working area in the middle. I wanted a balanced, symmetrical design to suit the kitchen's location in the middle of the house. This design footprint also means everything is near to hand, making it an easy space to work in."
Full-height cabinets are positioned on either side of the kitchen's double oven and cooktop. The cabinetry doors open out and fold back to provide additional bench space under the shelves, while crockery is stored at a convenient chest height.
