Cool change

Most substantial remodeling projects involve a new kitchen this home was no exception. Designer Richard Gatling of Gatling Design Inc says the late-1950s bungalow now features a soaring, open-plan kitchen, living and dining area.

To cater to the demands of modern lifestyles, the new kitchen features substantial ash and vertical-grain fir cabinets, a brightly colored tile backsplash, and distinctive, warm-red DuPont Zodiaq countertops.

Modern convenience also determined the appliance selection. Gatling says he chose the Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer for its solid reputation.

"We have specified the DishDrawer for a number of years," he says. "We find the single DishDrawer is particularly well suited to one- or two-person households. And in larger houses, clients often have a single DishDrawer in a butler's pantry or bar, to use as an auxiliary washer."

The in-door dispenser doesn't compromise the usable internal storage space, ensuring there is still plenty of room for bottles inside the door of the refrigerator.

Fisher & Paykel's Active Smart¢ technology continually monitors and adjusts the flow of cool air, so that food remains at the optimum temperature. Humidity-controlled fruit and vegetable drawers also help to keep produce fresher for longer.
