Sleek design that embodies the idea of functional minimalism is enhanced by Smeg appliances
Showrooms are, for kitchen designers, the stage upon which their ideas can be played out. This is why the choice of products, especially appliances, can be crucial in communicating their artistic vision.
For Sue Gillbanks, from Kitchens by Design, selecting from the range of Smeg appliances for the company's showroom was an easy choice.
"The showroom design is all about straight lines and clean edges," she says.
"Smeg appliances contribute to the sleek look. It is a well-known, reliable brand so we complement each other."
A prominent feature in the Kitchens by Design showroom is the freestanding stainless steel benchtop, containing the Smeg five gas burner cooktop. Electrical wires are concealed within the structure for an uncluttered look. The surface of the bench provides additional work space.
Above the cooktop two stainless steel ventilation canopies were custom designed. Their clean geometric lines echo the linear appeal of the oven tower of a Smeg convection microwave and a Smeg multifunctional oven, says Gillbanks.
"The visual appeal of Smeg appliances provided inspiration for some key aesthetic features. These stainless steel pieces enhance, rather than dominate, the room."
A stainless steel trim kit around the Smeg microwave ensures it fits seamlessly into the space below the oven. Beside the oven tower, a Smeg refrigerator is concealed behind white cabinetry.
"Among the design options offered by Smeg is the ability to integrate appliances seamlessly into the overall scheme."
