Colonial expansion
The home's remodel, by James Bourret Architecture Design Studio, has to modernised the flow of the interiors.
James Bourret Architecture was responsible for the design and details of the expansion and comprehensive restoration of the San Francisco home in an authentic manner, matching its original California Spanish Colonial style. The design motifs are carried through to the most minute of details, including new handmade Moorish tiles, carved and cast stone fireplace surrounds, as well as custom furniture and cabinets.
"Our approach was that all the changes made to the house should appear as though they could have been part of an original, improved, design of the home," says Bourret. "The end result, a credit to the efforts of all the craftspeople involved, truly attained that goal."
Approximately 2000sq ft of living space was added, including the entirely new lower living level and a finely crafted stair leading down to it. A new outdoor court and fountain were also installed. Few elements were left untouched in the process, and all-new electronics, media and controls were seamlessly integrated. Phase two will include a swimming pool, a rarity in San Francisco's hills.
