One of the defining design statements for Jade is the use of natural materials, from the sandstone cladding on the exterior facade to the extensive use of marble and limestone within.

WK Marble and Granite, the company that sourced Jade's marble and limestone, advised the architects on the right natural stones for the project.

"We selected six possibilities for each application for the architects to choose from, based on our knowledge of the world's finest marbles and limestones," says company owner Bill El-Cheikh.

The company supplied the tiles for the flooring, bathroom walls and tops for the kitchen benchtops and vanities 4000m² of stone in all. Another subcontractor then custom-cut and fitted the stone.

Floors in the apartments feature honed Cohera limestone, while the bathroom walls are tiled in Bianco Perla Antiquated limestone both sourced from Iran.

"The stone we sourced had to be of the highest quality," says El-Cheikh, who travelled to Iran to oversee the selection with the company's inspector based in the country. "We worked with the builder and architect to ensure the quality and colour selection met the design requirements."

The benchtops and vanities feature Monaco Brown polished marble sourced from Lebanon. In a deliberate allusion to the gold-toned copper cladding outside, the marble has a white and gold vein running through it.

"The marble and limestone we supplied gives Jade a calm, beautiful atmosphere," says El-Cheikh. "As well as the visual appeal, there's a very tactile quality to polished marble and honed limestone."
