Clean bill of health
Walls and ceilings for the Wellington Regional Hospital project were supplied and installed by Forman
In the event of an earthquake, it is paramount that a hospital stays standing. The Wellington Regional Hospital is base isolated, increasing the possibility that it could withstand an earthquake in this faultline-riddled area. The supply of the ceilings and walls by Forman Building Systems, the ceiling installation by Forman Commercial Interiors, and the wall installation by Ceiling and Interior Systems, also had to take into account seismic activity, says Forman's Nick Molcisi.
"The project's special nature demanded an integrated wall and ceiling approach. Fixings to the soffit had to be minimised due to a congested plenum from a large amount of services."
Forman engaged structural engineer Martin Meyers to support, design and oversee the construction. Wall and ceiling specialists Rondo Building Services also had input into this aspect of the project. Armstrong World Industries RH99 Hi-NRC Fine Fissured tiles were used for the ceilings, to provide a good level of sound absorption in working spaces, and transmission losses from the plenum. The stud, track and two-way exposed grid were supplied by Rondo Building Services.
