Clean and crisp
This contemporary kitchen features white finishes and Smeg's new linear series of appliances with stainless steel detailing
There are a wide variety of ways to make a small kitchen seem larger, but for kitchen designer Cheryl Moynagh the solution was to incorporate it into the larger open-plan living area.
First, Moynagh created more space by sacrificing a bathroom and laundry and turning them into a scullery. She then ran the main kitchen along one side of the open-plan dining and living room.
"When you walk into the living area, you don't realise it also contains the kitchen. I didn't want guests to feel as if they were in the kitchen, so it now has a clean, contemporary appearance and blends into the overall space," she says.
To create this crisp look, Moynagh selected a predominance of white finishes, highlighted with stainless steel accents. She chose Smeg appliances to complete the new kitchen and scullery.
"I have always loved Smeg appliances. I've had them in my two previous homes and have always enjoyed cooking with them. The bonus for this kitchen was that the oven I wanted was available in a white finish, so it blends in with the surrounding cabinetry," says Moynagh.
In addition, Smeg's range includes a semi-integrated dishwasher with a white front face and small stainless steel control panel, and a built-in Smeg Powerpack rangehood that fits discreetly into an overhead cupboard.
"Smeg's appliances have enabled me to create exactly the kitchen that I wanted," says the designer.
