Creating a home that is custom built to the client's requirements is the work of Starr Constructions

The owners of this new home had specific ideas about what they wanted. The plans given to builder Starr Constructions included an extensive use of glass, to let in the outdoors. At the same time, the home needed to be able to effectively shelter occupants and interiors from the effects of the full summer sun.
Starr Constructions director Jon Vithoulka says that through creative thinking, the building was designed to meet these requirements, and to be energy efficient.
"To reduce the need for air conditioning and heating, living areas face north. While glass allows sunshine in to warm the home, large eaves block the direct light of the high summer sun."
Vithoulka says Starr Constructions has been in business for eight years, creating custom homes like this one. Through proven workmanship and a direct approach to building, the company was awarded the 2006/2007 Building Excellence Award from the Master Builders' Association.
