Word of mouth is one of the best ways to find a kitchen design company, and for one Auckland-based firm, it's the main source of business.

Timberkiss director John Herd says most of the company's new business is the result of referrals from satisfied clients.

"A new kitchen is a big investment for many homeowners, and they need to know they are dealing with a professional company," he says. "Timberkiss is a small, but very experienced team, with a substantial portfolio of work."

Herd says Timberkiss provides a full design, manufacture and installation service. And although the company specialises in high-end kitchens, it also undertakes smaller projects and one-off furniture and cabinetry design and manufacture.

"With today's open-plan living areas, many homeowners are wanting to create custom-built furniture throughout the house," Herd says. "Consequently, we frequently design and build additional furniture, such as audiovisual units and buffets, to suit individual tastes."

Herd, who has been designing and building kitchens for 30 years, says Timberkiss places an emphasis on quality in terms of both in material selection and manufacture.

The company covers the greater Auckland area, and frequently works on projects north and south of the city.
