Having an existing working relationship with a client can expedite projects and help them run more smoothly, as a level of understanding has already been established between both parties.

Such was the case for designer Robin Baillie when asked to design an executive family home for an established client.

"That prior knowledge means you're in a much better position to understand their needs and wants and be able to realise them."

Faced with a challenging site and a brief for a large, contemporary home that maximised the extensive water views and indoor and outdoor living, Baillie designed a structure that forms a series of large planes into a layered facade that provides visual depth.

"Aliclad panels, masonry blocks and louvres work together to create negative detailing and shadow lines to break up the otherwise monolithic facade," says Baillie.

Bold geometries continue inside as well. Expansive open-plan areas bisect throughout the home, creating visual interest at every turn.
