Built to fit
The professionalism of the Certified Builder contracted on this rural home contributed to the solid and highly finished end result
While a slick townhouse will not look out of place in the city, a rural site calls for a more modest, understated look.
Realising this, the owners of the house featured here requested a rustic, ranch-style residence from their architectural designer, Bryan Musson.
"The result is a practical home for both living and working, which blends with the surrounding environment. Rooms are orientated to absorb views over the valley beyond. Large sliding windows and doors emphasise this," says Musson.
Certified Builder Jim Taylor of JWT Builders brought this design to fruition. Heavy macrocarpa trusses in the ceiling were just one of the project requirements. Musson says these fit with the style of the home and do not detract from the view.
"Adjustable cedar shutters allow for internal temperature control, while the countryside can be enjoyed from wide verandas outdoors. This house has been highly finished, and the end result was a big hit with the homeowners."
Members of the Certified Builders Association, such as Jim Taylor, train to become trade qualified, which is a requirement for membership. This training includes principles of work ethics, such as acting with honesty, integrity and responsibility, and dealing fairly with clients and other industry professionals.
