A good basis for achieving a top result is to have built up a long history of experience and expertise in a particular area.

From its beginnings in 1988 as a small design team based in West Auckland, Concept Design & Development Consultants has grown to include a team of architectural designers with a total of more than 70 years of experience.

Director Andre Kemp-Upton says the company aims to create a superior result that recognises the client's desires, budget and timeline.

"Our goal is an outcome that meets the client's brief and incorporates our architectural insight to produce an environmentally sustainable design," he says.

The team works alongside its clients from the initial purchase of the site, or the beginning of a renovation project, liaising with council and engineers to expedite the process.

Concept Design takes on retail, residential, education and council projects, commercial and industrial developments and community projects. Its areas of expertise include consultancy, project management, feasibility analysis and concept design. It also undertakes building consents, contract and tender documentation, and construction administration.

The company produces marketing brochures, as well as digital graphics and 3-D computer modelling to help its clients through the design processes.

"We appreciate how stressful designing and building can be, so all of our team is committed to overcoming any issues or problems along the way, and making the whole process as easy and fun as it can be," he says.

Concept Design was the architectural designer for the recent refurbishment of the Lido Cinema at Centre Place shopping centre in Hamilton.

Examples of the company's projects include relocating the premises of bathroom fittings manufacturer St Michel into a custom-designed and -built development that incorporated 500m² of showroom and office and 4000m² of high-stud manufacturing warehouse space.

For another project, BCL Building in Waitakere City, Concept Design carefully selected the materials to create a cost-efficient solution that did not compromise the overall design.
