Using traditional materials in novel ways is an easy way to introduce a strong, contemporary flavour to a kitchen. As this project shows, it can also be a way to link a kitchen with an outdoor living area.

Polished concrete with a natural river round aggregate from The Concrete Doctors features on the benchtops and down the side of the kitchen cabinetry.

Peter Housiaux from The Concrete Doctors says the concrete was formed to accommodate the hob. The benchtop was also designed to provide a seamless flow to the other side of the bifold windows, providing a practical surface for outdoor entertaining.

Housiaux says the company specialisesin decorative concrete, which can be customised to create any number of looks. Coloured aggregate, glass, shells or other objects can be added to the concrete mix, or sprinkled on the top layer. Concrete flooring can also be laid to complement other surfaces in the home.

Housiaux says The Concrete Doctors can rejuvenate existing concrete floors, by adding a layer over the top, or by colouring the floor with a range of overlays. These can include coloured acid washing.
