Responding to a growing demand in Auckland for multi-use venues, the Sky City Convention Centre has been built to provide for large conferences and meeting, exhibitions and banqueting space.

Dominion Constructors was contracted by Fletcher Construction to build the concrete structure of the Convention Centre and Hotel says managing director Brett Russell.

"Having completed the concrete structures of both the Sky City Casino and the iconic Sky Tower, Dominion Constructors has continued their relationship with Fletcher Construction."

Russell says the work included placing all concrete elements, including the supply of labour and formwork for the walls and floor. Peri Formwork, a modular formwork system, was used for the construction of all walls throughout the building.

"A point of difference was the exposed concrete walls at each end of the structure that required a wood grain look. This was achieved by fixing rough timber to each of the Peri shutters, which left the impression of wood grain on the concrete surface."
