The choice of materials used and the design of the flooring can have a major impact on the look and feel of a space. When creating the fit-out for Evans and Peck, the designers wanted to use colours and patterns that would have a calming effect and also relate to the company's work in infrastructure. The creation and installation of the carpet tiles chosen to meet this brief was contracted to the Asset Flooring Group. Project managers Malcolm Connell and Darren Gatt worked alongside the designers in ensuring they gained the desired results, says Gatt. Asset Flooring worked alongside designers Smith Madden to determine the exact requirements of the carpet tiles used in this fit-out. "In the boardroom, the designers wanted to use arrows to reference road signs, representing the tools of construction work in the city. The placement of these arrows was a matter of trial and error. We called the designers to the site and used a stainless steel template that could be moved around the floor."A similar method was used for the main office floor, which has a pattern of light green squares on a darker background. The pattern created by the two green tones relates to the dapple effect of natural light. Low-VOC products and materials were used in the creation of the flooring.
