As the roof is such a significant part of the exterior of the house, it is important it ties in with the overall aesthetic. For this house, a flat tile was used to achieve a streamlined, modern appearance.

Michelle Gissel, Monier marketing manager, says that a Monier Cambridge tile was used to create the sleek look of slate. This residence features tiles in the colour Soho Night.

"To complement the contemporary architectural style, a hewn stone finish was used to achieve a clean appearance. This type of finish is very versatile, suiting both traditional and contemporary houses.

"To minimise bulk and create a smooth appearance on the roof, an A-line ridging technique was used," she says.

Monier has implemented a colour technology called Cat Colour, which applies colour throughout the body of the tile as well as in the coating. The result is a deeper, more consistent and longer lasting tile colour.

"While this house did not require it, Monier's Edge technology allows for tiling down to a pitch as low as 15°. Edge technology is an industry first and is only available from Monier, delivering outstanding water-shedding properties," says Gissel.

Monier also offers solar tiles, which convert energy from the sun into electricity. The roof was laid by AB Roof Tiling, one of Monier's CSR Roofing specialists.
