Walk into any clifftop house and there's little doubt the view is king. But with so much going on beyond the windows the interior design of such a house can be a challenge.

The solution for the owners of this property high above Maraetai on Auckland's East Coast was to call in the team at Yellowfox. Interior designer Jenny Harris says it was clear that the home needed to provide a relaxed living environment that would enhance the architectural nature of the house.

"We could also see that a subtle nautical look would work in this setting," she says. "When you are inside the house it really does feel as though you are floating on the water at the helm of a boat."

DFD Oslo engineered timber floors flow through the living areas. These have a rustic blonded oak with an oiled finish that imparts a nautical feel.

"Although the living is relaxed, we also wanted to add touches of luxury," says Harris. "Consequently there is a plush Kaikoura carpet from Norman Ellison in the bedrooms. This is a 100% SDN carpet. All flooring was supplied and laid by Flooring Studio."

For added visual impact, wallpaper accents feature in several rooms, notably the bedrooms. These wallpapers are by Vision Wallcoverings, a Resene company.

"The feature walls add a dynamic element to each room, helping to individualise the separate spaces," says Harris. "Resene paints were also used throughout the house."

The kitchen boasts Bestwood Melamine kitchen cabinets manufactured by TK&C Kitchen Maker, with engineered stone benchtops from Architectural Stone and Tile Warehouse. This company also supplied the granite vanity tops.

Bathroomware was supplied by Robertsons. This includes crisp, white sculptural basins and a matching bathtub. Tile Warehouse mosaics and tiles also feature in the bathrooms.
