With the rapid rise in apartment living in recent years, rooftop gardens and balconies have come into their own as valuable outdoor living spaces. But there can be weight constraints to take into consideration when planning your landscaping.

Glass-fibre-reinforced concrete (GFRC) planters, urns and water features from Stone Accents offer an attractive and cost-effective solution. Director and landscape designer Ann Halligan says the GFRC products, which are manufactured in New Zealand, are up to 50% lighter than standard concrete. This makes them well suited to any situation, including balconies and rooftop gardens. The light weight of the pots also makes it easy to move plants around even when the pots are large.

"This is a distinct advantage for home staging, or for anyone needing to landscape a setting for an outdoor function," says Halligan. "Some of our pots are 1850mm high, yet they can be lifted easily."

Stone Accent's planters are coloured with natural products, including fertilisers that can be used to create an aged patina.

Halligan says in addition to their innate strength, the pots are durable, waterproof and are not affected by frost.
