Bending the rules
To create the contemporary look of this restaurant pergola, the architect contracted Auckland-based specialist company Glasshape
For a contemporary aesthetic, there is little to rival the sweeping effect of a curved glass wall. In this restaurant pergola, curved TemperShield glass from Auckland-based specialist glass manufacturer Glasshape adds a dynamic presence and creates a sense of contrast against the linear forms of the adjacent building.
Glasshape's recent developments mean that it can curve and toughen glass of a larger size than ever before up to 3800mm high x 2440mm girth. TemperShield can be used for a diverse range of architectural applications, including bay windows, balustrading, pool fences and barrel vaults. The double-glazed product meets the recently introduced H1 requirements for insulation in New Zealand homes.
Glasshape's range is made in New Zealand and also includes several varieties of safety glass, such as cyclone-resistant and bullet-proof products. The company can turn around projects to meet tight deadlines as required.
