Behind the scenes - Q Theatre's Italian tapware range supplied by Merquip

It's not just the performance on stage that contributes to the overall theatre experience. Every amenity at the new Q theatre has received the same attention to detail, including the bathrooms, which feature the latest touch-free, sensor-free tapware technology.
Cheshire Architects specified Milazzo taps from the Palazzani Italian tapware range supplied by Merquip. As well as being touch free, the taps are sensor free, thanks to a reverse polarity system that eliminates the need for traditional infra-red sensors. The taps act as an aerial, activating automatically when you move your hands close to the tap.
David Merrick of Merquip says this new technology provides a number of benefits. "Because there is no infra-red sensor mechanism in the tap, there are no problems with sensor damage from vandals and cleaners. This greatly improves reliability and longevity. The taps are also easier to use and simple to install."
Merrick says Palazzani sensor-free taps are unaffected by the ambient light conditions, so they won't fail to work in poor light or activate needlessly.
"The technology also gives designers greater freedom in styling. With no mechanism in the tap, the lines are simple, clean and classic. In the Q theatre, for example, all the technology is hidden, as required by the designers. The clean lines also ensure hygiene standards can be maintained easily."
