behind the scenes
Norman Disney & Young designed the building services for the Buddle Findlay offices.
The Buddle Findlay offices offer versatile occupancy and use. Carefully considered building services were a vital underpinning of their operation.
Engineering consultancy Norman Disney & Young (NDY) designed and specified building services for all three levels of the Buddle Findlay fit-out. Aspects included a variety of air-conditioning solutions, lighting and electrical services, fire protection, plumbing and security.
Introducing responsive services into the classic building required close interaction between NDY, the client's CEO Ian Nalder and the building owner's asset manager Paul Broughton of AMP NZ Office Trust. The collaboration effected a tight end product, says director Stuart Bagley.
"The project includes a multi-use facility defined by operable walls, which can be closed to form a group of meeting rooms or opened as a single large space. The air conditioning and lighting solutions have been designed to respond to the differing demands of these various uses."
"A component of the high-quality office space is the unobtrusive Swegon chilled beam system this replaced the existing induction boxes. Advantages of the chilled beams included facility for zoning, quiet operation, improved sightlines and a comfortable environment."
NDY's lighting solutions were equally dextrous a combination of halogen, fluorescent and LED lights again produced optimum comfort and flexibility. Audiovisual elements are operated from the same control panels.
"Norman Disney & Young has woven modern, highly flexible building services through the good bones of the AMP building," says Bagley.
