This show home gives new meaning to the idea of being at one with nature.

The 269m², four-bedroom GJ Gardner Homes Lakes show home in Tauranga was designed and built to celebrate the special features of the Bay of Plenty region. It begins with the architecture, says Kirsty McConnell of GJ Gardner Homes in Tauranga.

"The strong, peaked roof line is reminiscent of Mauo (Mt Maunganui) and the Kaimai ranges. And the light tones and horizontal lines of the exterior cladding speak of our inviting long beaches and wide horizons," she says. "The landscaping references our flowing sand dunes, and the mini citrus grove is a nod to our lush orchards."

The colours and aesthetics of the interior carry a similar message. The central living pavilion is designed to reflect the warm, neutral tones of Pilot Bay. The decor picks up on the graduating tones of sand and sea, says McConnell.

Other special features of the pavilion living area include high 2.7m and 3m coved ceilings and full-length stacker doors to terraces.

"An entertainer's delight, the house is packed with special features, including a generous kitchen with pantry, space-saving drawers and cupboards, a designated wine glass cabinet, a feature toi toi-patterned glass splashback and mirrored toekicks that give the illusion the island is floating," says McConnell.

The house also features the Kaimai guest wing a relaxing retreat in deep chocolate and forest green tones. This space could also be a media retreat or even a home office. High-end bathrooms are standard throughout the home.
