Back to black
There's nothing like black to help create a sense of drama. In these rooms Formica® Melteca in Black features on vanities and sliding doors
Renovation projects provide an ideal opportunity to try something completely different. For the owner of this house, it was a chance to indulge a passion for the colour black.
As well as designing a new all-black kitchen, designer Nicola Mason from Design Studio created two black bathrooms. Both rooms have cantilevered vanity cabinets made from double-faced MDF featuring Formica® Melteca in Black, a tough melamine surface.
Similar black Formica Melteca was used on the large sliding doors that open up the ensuite to the master bedroom. To maximise space the ensuite was built in a space formerly taken by a wardrobe.
"We paired the black Formica Melteca with black granite vanity tops and black porcelain wall tiles to effectively wrap the rooms in black," says Mason. "The black works well with the polished timber floors that feature throughout the house. We also introduced large mirrors and under-cabinet lighting to enhance the drama and create a spacious look."
Formica Melteca, available through The Laminex Group, is a pre-finished decorative panel that comes in a range of finishes. It can be used for many applications, including furniture and shelving.
