Away from it all

Whether you call it a bach, a crib, or a beach house, its purpose remains the same to offer respite, far from the madding crowd, for family and friends.

In the case of the featured property, the owners wanted to update to a Cape Cod-style coastal aesthetic and achieve a more open look, says Yellowfox designer Shelley Brockliss.

"The property is a relatively modest one, comprising an open-plan living area and two bedrooms. The brief was to create a sense of spaciousness, which I did through the use of a neutral palette."

The living area and bedrooms were painted in various strengths of Resene Thorndon Cream, creating uniformity and a fresh, airy feeling. Furnishings from CC Interiors and Living Edge were chosen for their neutral or natural look.

"Expona vinyl flooring from James Halstead sets off the lighter tones of the living area and kitchen, again creating a sense of space. Installed by Bee-Jay Flooring, it combines durability with noise control for a comfortable environment," says Brockliss.

Continuing the coastal theme, the kitchen manufactured by TK & C Cabinets features a Crea Quartz Desert Sea Shell island benchtop from Tile Warehouse.
