Automated for the future

Sophistication, privacy, automation and being all set up for the future – this reworked bathroom space delivers for its owners now and in times to come

Designed by Sandra Diaz-Velasco, Eolo A&I Design

From the designer:

We strove to express our owners' sophisticated lifestyle in this design.

The couple was moving from the West Coast to their new residence in Florida.

They wanted to enjoy a new residence that would supply luxury and comfort through an improved floor plan layout, home automation, and high-end construction finishes.

The existing space had his and hers bathrooms with one side lacking access to natural light.

Our homeowners’ complaints about existing conditions included lack of storage, poor lighting, and outdated finishes.

Goals and needs

  • Improved space layout with added layers of privacy in terms of approaching to the space and also within the bathroom – without sacrificing the sense of openness
  • New heated floor
  • Innovative integrated A/V systems
  • New equipment and fixtures that support accessibility as they grow older

Solutions

With these factors in mind, we envisioned a unified room that would use efficiently utilise the available area by maximising storage, with avant-garde equipment and technology.

With the new single space offering added value in terms of allowing natural light to flood the bathroom space.

As a welcoming feature, the accent wall and ceiling wood paneling (water resistant) cover a custom bathtub.

His/her sinks with vanities at either side of the entrance supply a sense of symmetry.

Robern medicine cabinets along with full height closets, set at each side of the tub, support storage.

The window in the shower area frames beautiful city views.

We equipped this area with built-in seating, modern shower systems, niche shelving, and transparent glass enclosures that make sure natural light floods the whole space.

A water-resistant window black out supplies privacy as needed.

The under-floor heating floor, window blackout, lighting, and sound systems in the bathroom all integrate to the home automation system to supply an added sense of luxury, comfort, and ease of use.

All seating areas supply ADA custom grab bars, and/or accessible surfaces for aging in place comfort without sacrificing a luxurious look.

To completely meet the need for privacy on the approach to the space we custom designed sliding doors, integrated into the wood paneling system.

A custom millwork piece supports visual transition from the bedroom, while holding a revolving television panel that serves both bedroom and bathroom.

We also created a 'powder room' (with a smart bidet/toilet and pedestal sink) separated from the main area by translucent Soji glass panels to further support privacy.
