At one with nature
A tiered building platform, natural material palette and extensive landscaping ensure this new house from Balmoral Homes fits in with its surroundings
For most new home projects there is a close relationship between the architecture and environment. But few projects explore this as fully as this new Glenhaven home designed and built by Balmoral Homes.
Marketing manager Shane Nisbet says the luxury home was built over three platforms to accommodate the sloping site. This was also a way to provide separate living areas, a pool with an infinity edge, spa pool and cabana.
"Every aspect of the design and construction was detailed to ensure there was minimal impact on the natural surroundings," he says. "We also ensured there was a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living spaces, and made good use of passive heating and cooling."
Windows and doors are positioned to maximise the rural views to the rear, and to provide cross ventilation.
Because the building site is within a bushfire zone, flame-retardant materials were required, but aesthetics were not compromised.
"Earthy tones and textures feature throughout the home. We also incorporated recycled spotted gum posts, laminated Comfort Tone windows and reinforced skylights. A large water tank is concealed by the detached poolside cabana."
