Artist's house makes bold use of colourful paints
The kitchen, bathroom and window reveals on this home are in Resene Lustacryl finish, whereas the bedrooms and walls benefit from the durable, low sheen Resene Lumbersider.
Sited on a hilltop saddle with sweeping views, and boasting sustainability at its heart, this home by Aonui Architecture makes the most of dramatic paint surfaces.
Project architect Richard Wright says the interior colours were chosen by Aonui with the artist-owner, Anya Mowll.
"Anya wanted us to use bold colours to accentuate the different zones in the house.
"Colourful walls and fittings mediate between the deep charcoal floor tiles and the straw tones of the ply ceilings," Wright says. "Even when the sun isn't shining into this solar home, we wanted it to have a golden sunlit quality. So the default living room colour is Resene Golden Glow, with accent walls in the red-brown Resene Rough N Tumble. Resene Golden Glow was also used in the master bedroom."
The kitchen features deep red Resene Thunderbird around the fridge, with Resene Toto, a soft blue, on the cabinetry, and Resene Sunflower on the walls.
"Resene acrylic paints have proved themselves on many projects to offer great coverage and be easy to apply," says the architect. "The high-wear areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and the window reveals received the harder, semi-gloss, Resene Lustacryl finish, whereas the bedrooms and walls benefit from the durable, low sheen Resene Lumbersider."
